You can contract with ROTC as a Scholarship Cadet or Non-Scholarship Cadet

 Army ROTC at USC offers a variety of scholarship and financial support opportunities designed to help students pursue their degree while preparing for a career as an Army officer. Depending on eligibility and program status, students may have access to scholarships, stipends, book allowances, and additional university or ROTC support.   • Be a U.S. citizen, cannot turn 31 during commissioning year
  • Score a minimum of 1000 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores)
  • Meet physical standards
  • Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)
  • A $420 monthly stipend is given to all contracted cadets, regardless of class year or scholarship status.
  • In addition to book allowance, you can pay for tuition/room and board
  • Scholarships cadets are provided a $1,200 yearly book allowance
  • In addition to book allowance, you can pay for tuition/room and board.

The National High School Scholarship provides students with either a three- or four-year ROTC scholarship that is applied to cover either full tuition, which transfers money directly to the school/financial institution, or room-and-board, which transfers money directly to the student’s bank account. Students with this scholarship are able to compete for Active Duty or can request commission into the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) or Army National Guard (ARNG). Those that contract and eventually commission must serve either four years on Active Duty and four years in the Individual Ready Reserve/USAR/ARNG or eight years in USAR/ARNG. Applicants for this specific scholarship must be between the ages of 17 to 26.

Line Scholarships provide students with up to six semesters worth of benefits and give them the opportunity to compete for Active Duty while still being able to request commission into USAR or ARNG. Those that contract and eventually commission must serve either four years in Active Duty and four years in Individual Ready Reserve/USAR/ARNG or eight years in USAR/ARNG. Individuals awarded scholarships can choose to cover either full tuition, which transfers money directly to the school/financial institution, or room-and-board, which transfers money directly to an individual’s bank account. Students with line scholarships do not need to participate in the Simultaneous Membership Program.a

The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) provides eligible enlisted members of the ARNG and USAR an opportunity to maintain status in their Reserve Component while simultaneously attending college and participating as a contracted Cadet in the ROTC Program working towards a Commission as an Officer. Cadets who are not prior service are also eligible to participate in SMP. ROTC Cadets participating in SMP will attend one weekend training event each month as well as a two-week annual training with their Reserve Component Unit. Students may elect to participate in SMP with a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship, a Dedicated USAR/ARNG Scholarship, a Minuteman Scholarship, or without a scholarship.
